Many dresses, or suites for men, cost a lot of money. Many times people go in debt to purchase a dress, and sometimes it can be like a dream come true - to finally get home to put it on. As a little girl I wore many dark red dresses. They were my Dad's favorite, and every time I got a new one, I was very excited to have it. I can still remember how I could not wait to put it on, to have a reason to wear it. Those were the days! For many girls or women, depending where you are in your time line, the famous "wedding dress" is much anticipated and many times very expensive. Many people pay more for a wedding dress than they pay for their first car. It seems ironic that the car gets much use and the dress is (generally) worn only once.
There is another dress, that you should have ready and that you will wear more than once. That is the "Funeral Dress". A couple of days ago I was at a funeral and I realized that I was under dressed. I should have worn the other black and white dress in my closet, but I wasn't sure how much to dress up. After all is summer time in South Texas. While watching the parade of dresses, I started to assign price tags to the different dresses and it hit me: the majority of the dresses where under $75. It is quite a price difference between $75 and at least $300, for a wedding dress. The occasion is just as important. A wedding signifies many new things, new beginnings and bright future. A funeral details, even if kicking and screaming, the beginning of many things too. The many parents who will not see their child. The many children who will not see their parent. The many friends who will not need to call that friend anymore or the many spouses who will not longer have someone to say goodnight to.
The "funeral dress" should take a higher priority on our list to be prepared for what tomorrow may bring us.
